ServiceDesk makes it easy to get help
Our new shared service portal simplifies how to get support or request services from supporting departments. At the moment, IT Services, Estates and Agresso Support (Agresso is the School finance system) have made their services available via ServiceDesk. Take a look: http://servicedesk.lshtm.ac.uk
Don’t get caught out! Please take a moment to read our guidance on phishing and spam emails, not only to protect your University account and data but also so that you can remain vigilant during your personal online use: Phishing and spam emails
All of the IT Training workshop materials are now available in Moodle. Our booklets and exercise files can all be accessed through the navigation pane in Moodle. Simply click “My Courses”, then “LSHTM Communities”, then “Student Communities” and you will see the IT Training MSc Moodle module. While it is useful to know how to find the materials, here is a direct link: https://ble.lshtm.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=1522
You can also book yourself onto IT workshops using the link at the top of the page.
We have also created video workshops for MS Office and will be adding more throughout the year. Currently, there are video workshops for Excel: Charts & Graphs; Excel: Data Management; Excel Formulae, Functions and Formatting; and PowerPoint: Academic Presentations.
Finally, as summer project submission nears you may find the Word formatting for Summer Projects materials and videos particularly helpful!
You are able to download a free personal copy of the Office 2016 programs*
As part of the School’s Office 365 licence, students are able to download a personal copy of the Office 2016 programs on up to five computers. The download page can be found here: https://portal.office.com/OLS/MySoftware.aspx
Mobile and tablet versions of Office products are available free for a range of different devices. For more information visit the link above, then click Phone & Tablet and select your device.
You are permitted to use the Office programs at home whilst you are an LSHTM student. Once you are no longer enrolled at the School, you will need to purchase a license or subscription directly from Microsoft to continue to use the programs on your devices, or you can uninstall them at that time.
* Mac users will receive a subset of applications; those which are available in Office for Mac are Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and OneNote
We have a dedicated webpage for the multifunctional devices (MFDs) which includes instructions on set up and printing
The print devices may look a bit daunting but they are surprisingly intuitive. If you do get stuck though, we have instructions available on the web for setting up printing and using the new devices.
Did you know that you can print an A3 preview on the new MFDs before submitting a poster for printing?
We have a LSHTM Mobile App
Keep up to date on the latest School news, events and job vacancies, look up phone numbers and query the library catalogue, read the Noticeboard, check for IT service alerts, navigate around using street maps and building plans, find a free computer in a classroom or jump off straight to Webmail and Moodle.
To access the web app, simply browse to m.lshtm.ac.uk on your smart phone or other mobile device. It all runs in your browser so, no need to download anything from an app store. You can easily save the page to your homescreen for quick reference at any time.
BrowseAloud is enabled on our webpages. This offers text to speech functionality as well as the ability to translate into 35 languages. To find out what great features are available, check out our factsheet.
